Secondand third-order elastic constants, ultrasonic velocities and thermal relaxation times have also been computed for these alloys. In each case, the addition of platinum to the coinage metal reduces the attenuation, which indicates that bimetallic alloys with a higher platinum content are more ductile and stable and contain fewer defects in their crystal structure than those with a lower platinum content. The predominant mechanism of attenuation of ultrasonic waves is phonon-phonon interaction rather than thermoelastic loss. The results are compared with available theoretical data and experimental measurements for the pure coinage metals. These results, in combination with other well-known physical properties, can be applied to the non-destructive testing of materials for various industrial applications.

The ultrasonic attenuation is evaluated at 300 K along [100], [110], and [111] directions for the characterization of bcc metal Ta. The size of the metal is considered in nanorange. Ultrasonic velocity, Grüneisen parameter and acoustic coupling constant that depend on second and third order elastic constants are calculated for determination of ultrasonic attenuation coefficient. Abstract Ultrasonic velocity and attenuation measurements are powerful tools to infer information about the microstructure and properties of metals and their alloys. To begin, elastic constants can be measured with precision as high as one part in 10. At this level of precision, changes in elastic constants caused by texture, phase transformations, and various internal friction phenomena can be...

For non destructive stress evaluation in prestressed concrete, we describe in this paper a promising ultrasonic method. In "ordinary" isotropic homogeneous materials such as steel, ultrasonic determination of third order elastic constants provides means for stress evaluation since half a century. Acoustoelasticity is aimed at measuring ultrasonic velocity changes at progressively increasing app...

Background & Aims: Today, different imaging techniques have been studied in the reading of radiationsensitive polymer gels dosage. Due to limitations of imaging techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT), ultrasound techniques are proposed for dose-dependent parameter extraction. In this study, using MAGIC-f (methacrylic and ascorbic acid in gelatin initiat...
